Great, unique, all around way cool gift for anyone!, January 4, 2011

I have known about these since I was a kid… (turned 50 this year, yikes) and they still impress me! Any appreciator of creativity, versatility, great colorful photography, and no TV play will love these. Quite the ‘almost any age’ gift as well. I’d say for age 6 and up. I originally put them in my son’s stocking one year. They didn’t get much attention at the time but my teenage daughter recently rediscovered them and she and my husband had fun ‘building’ together with them. They can be a one or multiple person activity. Fun isn’t so much the way I would describe them as much as cool and original. Safe to give as a unique gift to almost anyone. And can’t say enough about the cool pics!!! I am a serious fan of ‘vintage’ so they get a lot of mileage with me;) They originally came out in 1952. The images are of what the designers called “good stuff”, chosen to celebrate “familiar and nostalgic objects from the animal, vegetable, and mineral kingdoms.” The six slots on each card enable the player to interlock the cards so as to build structures of myriad shapes and sizes.

The cards creators; Charles and Ray (female and wife/work partner) Eames (pronounced i’mz) are considered among the most important American designers of this past century. They spent their time creating and inspiring many of the great pieces of architecture, furniture, film and graphic design that we see today. [Not sure why they are called 'MoMa Earnes'. They are definitely the ones by Charles and Ray Eames as the description notes]
